Happy Days treat young carers to a fun-filled day at New Forest Wildlife Park

1st March 2019

24 young carers were treated to a fun-filled day at The New Forest Wildlife Park courtesy of Happy Days, an organisation who provide vital respite breaks for families and groups who support individuals with additional needs or those who act as carers for a parent or sibling.

The young carers, who are supported through No Limits’ Young Carers in Southampton project, were able to meet with other young people with similar life experiences and enjoy time away from their responsibilities as a carer.

Toni-Marie Leaf, Inclusion and Participation Service Manager, said “Young carers take on high levels of responsibilities that many adults would struggle with. As well as impacting on their education and their physical and mental health, caring can also mean they miss out on time with their friends and access to fun activities. This amazing opportunity to spend a day at New Forest Wildlife Park, with a group of friends that understand their lives, allows them a chance to have a break and have fun with other young people that understand them. These opportunities have such a positive impact on the young carers that are able to access them.”
