Supporting safer communities
One-to-One Mentoring
Want a fresh start but not sure how to get there?
We are here to help young people aged 11-18 in Southampton who are involved in risk-taking behaviour, offending or criminal exploitation make positive changes to their life and begin the pathway to a better future.
This programme is run in collaboration with Youth Options, SOCO Music, Saints Foundation and Oasis City Farm.
What’s in it for me?

One-to-one support
Help and guidance from a mentor who gets to know you and can give advice tailored to your needs.

A safe space
Have a safe space to be talk, be heard and supported with no fear of judgment about your past.

Further support
Get help to access more support that will help you, like mental health, housing, benefits and more.

Higher confidence
Be around people who believe in you and can help you to grow and achieve any goals you have.

Positive life choices
Guidance to help you to get your life going in the right direction and have the right people around you.

Better opportunities
Find education, employment and training that will give you a chance to start your career.
Who is it for?
The programme is for young people aged 11-18 who have had significant involvement in the criminal justice system, and may also have experience of:
– Exclusion and school non-attendance
– Risk of a family breakdown or homelessness
– Limited support from friends and family
– Regular substance use
– Criminal exploitation or are at high risk of criminal exploitation
– Neurodivergence (e.g. ADHD, ASD, PTSD)
– Significant poverty
How does it work?
Once a referral is completed, you will be matched with an organisation and a mentor that suit your needs and interests, for example, if you like sport you could be matched with Saints Foundation, and if you like animals, you could be matched with Oasis City Farm.
You will then have between three and six months of one-to-one support from your mentor, including weekly meetings where you can discuss what you’re passionate about, what you’d like to achieve and where you’d like to be.
Your mentor will then work with you to improve different aspects of you like, like building confidence and resilience, reducing risk of offending or exploitation, and increasing engagement in work or education. This will help you to get geared up for a positive adult life.
They can also support you to access further support if you feel that it would help. Your mentor will be there to listen to you, help you work things out and be a safe space to talk about anything that’s going on.
How do I sign up?
To get support from the mentorship programme, ask your key worker from the youth justice service, young people’s or inclusion service to fill in one of our referral forms through the link below.
