Kirsty's story
15 year old Kirsty (not her real name) lived in a home that had become inhabitable due to bed bugs. She was sharing a bed with her 12-year-old male sibling, Mum had mental health issues and used cannabis to manage her moods. Kirsty had been groomed online to send indecent images to an older male who lived out of area. Mum could be verbally abusive and when this occurred Kirsty would seek attention and affection from unknown people online.
No Limits worked with other professionals to address the issues with Kirsty’s house and put a plan in place to address Mum’s mental health, substance issues and relationships with children. A No Limits sexual health worker supported Kirsty to understand healthy relationships and a youth worker helped her work out how to stay safe online. Kirsty joined No Limits’ Young Carer’s group and No Limits’ COSMO Group (Children of Substance Misusing Others). Kirstly is now using the internet safely and has a consistent network of professionals working with her, sharing information to keep her safe and well.
