Carers Week 2023 – Highlighting our Young Carers

This week is Carers Week, so we wanted to shine a light on our young carers.

Young Carers in Southampton is a group for young people aged 8-18 that care for an unwell or disabled family member, whether it’s a physical or learning disability, suffering from mental health issues, chronic illness, or use of drugs and alcohol.

This year, for Carers Week, Zara, a social work student at Solent University on placement at No Limits, has created a video with some young carers to show the fun activities they get up to, hear from the young people and give information about the group.

In the video, Imogen and Charlie, both primary young carers, talk about why they come to the young carers group. Images are from weekly group sessions and activities at Royal Southampton Yacht Club, YMCA Fairthorne Manor and The Rocksteady Foundation.
